Scattering and inverse scattering in one-dimensional nonhomogeneous media
The wave propagation in a one-dimensional nonhomogeneous medium is considered, where the wave speed and the restoring force depend on location. In the frequency domain this is equivalent to the Schrijdinger equation d2$/dx2 + k211, = k2P(x)II, + Q(x)Jt with an added potential proportional to energy. The scattering and bound-state solutions of this equation are studied and the properties of the ...

متن کاملOne - dimensional inverse scattering and spectral problems
Inverse scattering and spectral one-dimensional problems are discussed systematically in a self-contained way. Many novel results due to the author are presented. The classical results are often presented in a new way. Several highlights of the new results include: 1) Analysis of the invertibility of the steps in the Gel’fand-Levitan and Marchenko inversion procedures, 2) Theory of the inverse ...
متن کاملInverse scattering for time-varying one-dimensional layered media: algorithms and applications
We formulate and present algorithms and applications for the inverse scattering problem for a one-dimensional layered medium whose reflection coefficients vary with time. We show that given the reflection responses to impulsive plane waves incident on the medium at different times, this problem can be solved either by solving a series of nested non-Toeplitz systems of equations, or by propagati...
متن کاملLocalization in One Dimensional Random Media: a Scattering Theoretic Approach
We use scattering theoretic methods to prove exponential local-ization for random displacement models in one dimension. The operators we consider model both quantum and classical wave propagation. Our main tools are the reeection and transmission coeecients for compactly supported single site perturbations. We show that randomly displaced, non-reeectionless single sites lead to localization. 1....
